I stumbled upon some clever twists on the barcode.  The hum drum graphic pattern was just screaming
to be made over... 


Barcode Background

In 1948 Bernard Silver began working on an automatic system to help facilitate inputting product information
at checkout counters.  Four years later he obtained a patent.  In the mid 1970s the development of the UPC (Universal Product Code) was set in motion and eventually helped to computerize the grocery industry. 
Now barcodes can be found on almost every product for sale in all types of commercial stores and come in
patterns of squares, dots, hexagons among others.  Check out more barcode tidbits here.
