This was one of my favourite books growing up. Last year I had been thinking about it a lot and finally just bought it off Amazon for a few bucks.

Mine was, believe it or not, "The Yeggs and the Yahbuts." Which I now own two copies of, thanks to abebooks. It seemed so radical at the time but now that I look at it again, it's depressingly colonial. But full of small cute furry animals in need of saving by their more enlightened scientific neighbours from the West who arrived in a hot air balloon with a toolkit. I'm sure it's some sort of questionable allegory. But the villains were from FLA, a thinly disguised Florida.
