I recently photographed the new restaurant Juniper Kitchen & Bar in Chinatown for New Format Studio. Henry and his team added the steel details found around the bar and throughout the seating areas. I love the muted blue tones contrasting the grey metal, designed and built by Simcic Uhrich Architects and Harmony Pacific.

news! I'm pleased to announce that my 'architects are assholes' mugs are now available at the concept design store, Vancouver Special, located on Main Street in Mount Pleasant. You can order through their website or contact me to purchase one for that special architect in your life. 3" and 11⁄2" stickers are available to purchase at Vancouver Special as well. history architects are assholes....because they have to be Picture it: Ottawa, 2003, I was in my second year studio at Carleton University's School of Architecture when I realized, architects are assholes. My first silk-screened tee shirt made its debut about a year later. Three photos from my Strung series have been added to my catalogue of available framed prints at the Vancouver Art Gallery's Art Rental & Sales Department. The 18x24" prints can hang in a triptych or individually. Just found out two of my small 12x12" framed prints from my Same Soup Different Flavour: 100 Pairs of Converse Shoes photo series, available at the Art Rental & Sales Department, sold and four additional prints were requested by an interior designer to use in an upcoming residential project. I've photographed many projects outside and around the Vancouver Art Gallery but this is the first time I've been able to document an installation inside. Amber Frid-Jimenez' (half of AFJD) multi-media installation, This Is Not a Test, was part of the gallery's largest exhibition, Mashup: The Birth of Modern Culture. Spread over all four floors, the exhibition explores the history and evolution of mashup culture. The show comes down this weekend so hurry and check it out! Last month I was commissioned by renown Toronto architecture firm Moriyama & Teshima Architects to re-photograph their city hall project in Surrey, BC. The architects wanted images that better showed the building in use, details of the west facade and during classic west coast weather, which I love since rain and grey skies can create atmospheric light that I find beautiful. I've posted some shots from my photo shoot at the new ALLSAINTS store at Pacific Centre in downtown Vancouver. They're based in the UK and opened up stores in Canada and contacted me to document the store's design features and layout. It was definitely hard keeping my eyes on the viewfinder and off the purses!
I had a great time photographing carpenter and designer, Candice Morris, and a few of her custom furniture pieces. She's super talented and does great work. It's really cool meeting so many gifted designers, builders and artists living and working in East Van. I had the pleasure of photographing a couple projects for furniture and millwork designer Owen Crane. I met him back in July and was impressed with his work. He honours the integrity of the materials, is obsessive about the details and is an all around good guy. I highly recommend getting in touch with him for your next project. |
